Today was our one big day to tour Sydney comme il faut, so we wanted to cram in as much as possible, and for that, you need a good start to the day. We started with a BIG breakfast at the cafe at Wake Up! Sydney, and when I say big, I mean BIG. Neither one of us could finish our food, it was that big. And away we go to see the city! We decided to follow a walking tour outlined in the Lonely Planet, since it offered a nice balance of all the big sights, without the high price tag. In fact, if you do your research right, and pack a lunch and snacks, you can easily spend the whole day visiting the city for free. And that’s including museums! We made our way to the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park to start the tour. Sydney’s Anzac Memorial is given just as much precedence as the one in Canberra, being places right in the middle of a large avenue of trees, facing a reflecting pool, but the idea of war and the Australian armies is much less glorified here. In fact, most of the statues look ashamed to be participating at all, not standing tall with halos floating above their heads. Funny thing, though: It is an offense to sit on the Anzac Memorial steps. Interesting.
