My 120 Gallon freshwater aquarium

Just worked on it so I figured I’d post a vid. I’ve tried to provide the fish with something that might be close to nature which is why it looks a bit chaotic. I think for the little guys to be happy, there need to be plenty of hiding spots and stuff to swim through like plants and roots and stuff. PS. The house plants have really done wonders for the water quality and they are so easy to keep. I’ve been doing this house plant thing now for maybe 7 years. Works great!

I have jacks and it doesn’t matter how I set up the tank cuz everything will be moved within the next 24 hours to how they want it so I just don’t bother.

    @badfish909

Ammonia, nitrates and nitrites are all pretty much zero thanks to the house plants (some kind of vine plant) which sits outside the tank but roots in the water – all the roots you see belong to the vines. The plants have really done miracles :)

Oh and I’ve got a huge biological filteration due to the big Eheim filters :)

Thank you. I’ve added a few under water plants since then but the fish are eating them so I dont think they will live long (the plants)

    very nice

Thanks. I do like the driftwood as well. Not only does it make it look more natural, but it also helps lower the PH of the water which in this case is good for this fish.

    love the driftwood

Thank you. Its a really simple and easy tank to maintain. The plants really help keep the water clean.

Thanks sir :) Its very chaotic but still pleasing because its kind of natural. The fish seem to love playing in the roots. Sometimes I see them go into the roots and just sit in there and chill. LOL.

    Gorgeous tank!

Ya its kind strange but I thought that maybe it might simulate the waters close to the edge of a river or pond, where there may be roots of terrestrial plants going into the water. They like it and like you said, they make great filters. The water quality has improved incredibly as a result.

    lol ic nice tank tho.

Never seen that plant thing done before! Looks weird but I’m sure it works well – plants are better at cleaning water than any filter. Good job!

LOL no man… never doing convicts again. They freaking breed like rabbits and before you know it, you’ll have thousands of them :) They do have lots of personality though.

I have a firemouth in the tank which I rescued from a walmart. He’s about the size of the kribensis but he’s getting the shit kicked out of him. I think the Kribs are just too aggressive because they are getting ready to breed.. Thankfully the tank is big enough that he can get away.

  19. joker22 says:

lol yea it is peaceful. and get a convict or two they are nice.

  20. svtcontour says:

    Thanks :)

As for the boring, well not really boring… peaceful I guess. The Congo tetra are really nice looking fish and the Clown loach are very active. The Kribensis are starting to breed so they are getting aggressive and showing personality. The Pleco…well he’s a lump. I do have a large crayfish in there as well but I only seem him like once a month.

Thanks dude :) Very enjoyable hobby. I cant wait until I get a bigger tank this summer sometime. I’ll probably do an update vid then. Will definitly have more plants in it then.

Damn dude. That is kick ass.

Hi GlockNinja. Thanks for the comment.

I only do a 10% water change every week and I clean the filtersevery 3 months (they are quite large). The water has a very slight smell – like rainfall in a dirt field. Not bad at all. Very natural smelling. Not fishy or anything.

Well the key for me was using plants that are not in the water. I’m using house plants (you can see the plants on top of the tank. Only the roots are in the water. I have a light above for those but if you naturally have light in the room (like a window) then you dont even need to give them much light.
