Aviendha playing in her new rice box

I made a rice box (like a sandbox) for the ferrets to play in (rice is much safer for them to dig in than anything else due to it being clean and free of dust. I made it from a rubbermade under-bed tote, 3 big bags of rice, cut out holes in the lid for them to come in and out of, and a ferret tunnel. I also started hiding some of their favourite toys and treats in the rice for them to have a reward for digging things out. Ferrets were actually designed to dig through narrow tunnels to hunt rodents which were considered pests and because of this their natural instinct makes them love to dig. Their rice box helped stop them from digging through my house plants and the cat’s litter box, which I commonly found them in.

@militaryqt Wow, you are very smart! What’s a better way not to get rice all over your floor than snapping on a lid, lol(: Is your tube glued or taped down?

It really all depends on how they are raised really. We were lucky enough to get Aviendha and Niella from a place where they were very well handled and socialized as kits. The problem most people have with them being aggressive is that ferrets naturally play rough and some people don’t know how to teach them when they are young what kind of play is not acceptable. Aviendha actually used to have a bad ankle biting problem and she would literrally terrorize people by following us and biting.

hehe wow. Farrets are energetic creatures :D . I never owned one before, but they seem friendly. Someone told me a long time ago that they can be very mean too.
